Nintendo trademarks hint at future plans
According to Gamefront, Nintendo has registered new product names at the Japanese patent office. Most hint at plans that we already know Nintendo has in the pipeline, but others such as the renewal of the ‘Pikmin’ trademark are bound to excite many fans.
The newly registered trademarks are as follows:
- Mii Contest Channel
Probably a bit of a no-brainer this one, most likely relating to the ‘Check Mii Out’ channel that was announced during Nintendo’s E3 conference earlier on this year. The service will allow Wii owners to compare their Mii creations as well as enter them into online competitions.
- Nintendo Magic
Nintendo Magic is a magician simulation title for the Nintendo DS that was released in Japan in November last year. Despite little coverage, it is planned for release in North America on November 26 this year.
- Wii Body Controller
There seems to be a bit of conflict over this one, but could it just be another name for the tentatively titled Wii Balance Board? Nintendo’s official website states that the accessory’s name is not yet official, so perhaps Wii Body Controller could end up being how the final of the weighing scales-like device is known?
- Mii Audition
A new Wii Channel possibly? Or just another facet of the ‘Check Mii Out’ venture?
- Wii Handle
A very peculiar one, this. Any suggestions?
- Pikmin (protection of trademarks renewed)
Does Nintendo’s securing of the Pikmin trademark hint that a new title featuring the miniature creatures might be on the way? We know that fans of Pikmin 2 on the GameCube would just love an online mode featuring its multiplayer options.
- Soma Bringer
Another very strange one, any guesses?

Soma is a ritual drink in India with halucinagenic properties. While I doubt that part will make it in, my bet that Soma Bringer would be some kind of waiter “balance the drinks on the plate” kind of game.

The Wii Handle thing might be a carrying case for the Wii.
Wii Handle, when you say handle you make me think of a CB so possibly it could be some little chat proggy for the wii they are developing. Possibly with the ability to walk your wii around and such. Would make good use of the little minigames they are talking about. Also if you think about it, then its not that far off because the Wii was made to bring people together and encourage multiplayer gaming for the most part.
Soma is a pill from the book “Brave New World” The pill stops the aging process, keeps you healthy, and gives you a euphoric feeling, amoung a lot of other things. Its the do everything drug.
