THQ has today released for first screenshots of SpongeBobs: Atlantis Squarepantis for the Nintendo DS, the latest adventure featuring the buck-toothed sea-dweller to hit the portable console.

The game follows the story of SpongeBob and his best friend Patrick, who, after finding a lost magical amulet are transported to the legendary city of Atlantis. Players will join the pair and other favourites from the Nickelodeon animated series as they follow Spongebob’s dream to find the World’s Oldest Bubble. Only the Evil Plankton stands in their way…

We do like a bit of Spongebob, but his videogame outings have often been lazy, unimaginative affairs. We’re not holding out much hope on this one being any different, but you can’t blame us for wishing for the best.
