Namco Bandai resurrects Power Pad mat for Wii generation
Namco Bandai looks to be capitalising on the buzz surrounding Nintendo’s Wii Fit, with an announcement today that it is to resurrect a ye olde gaming accessory for the current generation of players. The developer has confirmed that it is to bring “Family Trainer Athletic World” (ropey Japanese translation) to the Nintendo Wii sometime in 2008, a title inspired by the Nintendo Entertainment System’s Power Pad.
Used in tandem with Wii Remote and Nunchuck gestures, Namco Bandai hopes that the dance mat-esque gaming accessory will make for the most involving athletic experience on the Nintendo Wii to date, with players using their entire bodies to control onscreen events.
Mini-games look to include rowing a boat on the river rapids and avoiding rocks and other hidden pitfalls and controlling a two-person vehicle by pumping of the arms. The firm divulges that “Family Trainer Athletic World” will feature both single player games and co-operative experiences for up to two players.
“Family Trainer Athletic World” is currently planned for a 2008 release in Japan.
