Free Radical considers TimeSplitters for Nintendo’s Wii

The team at Free Radical Design are still often referred to as the ‘ex-Rare folk that did GoldenEye 007 on the Nintendo 64′. Whilst true, clearly the team has much more under its belt now, such as the immensely popular TimeSplitters First-Person Shooter franchise and now it appears the fourth game could come to Wii.

Free Radical’s current project, Haze, is reportedly not fit for Wii due to the system’s weaker stature in comparison to the powerhouse duo of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This lead to many people presuming Free Radical was about to shun the Wii completely, going against the team’s pro-Nintendo feelings in favour of just going down the power route. However, in a new interview, David Doak (yes, ‘Dr. Doak’ from the Nintendo 64’s GoldenEye 007!) has revealed TimeSplitters 4 could indeed be on its way to Wii after all:

TimeSplitters 4 coming to Wii? Let us hope so!

Nintendo World Report article: Moving on to the topic of Wii development, Doak said, “I think it’s a good thing to do, and I think we want to put [TimeSplitters 4] on the Wii.” While the game is still without a publisher and remains in a preliminary stage of development, Doak seems convinced that the TimeSplitters style of gameplay can be adapted to the motion controls made possible by the Wii Remote. On the subject of developing games based around motion controls, Doak was critical of using too many gesture controls just for the sake of being ambitious. “It’s better to make a game that’s enjoyable to play than a game that’s got features that don’t work.”

As for other Wii prospects, given that Resident Evil 4 has done so well in its Wii remake form, Doak states “If you want to start a petition for remaking Second Sight on Wii, I’d like to see that as well.”

Would you like to see Second Sight remade for Wii and what about TimeSplitters 4? Be sure to let us know in the forum and stay tuned to Nintendic for further updates…

Yes re-make second sight, it was great. and yes bring TS4 to the wii. I would like to see free radical support the wii as much as rockstar are (manhunt 2, Bully and Table tennis)

Timeslitters 4 would be a lovely idea. However, wouldn’t GoldenEye - all jazzed up on the wii be a lovely thought.
