DS outsells Sony PSP by 3-1
In a recent DS Lite Retail guide that was bundles with trade weekly MCV, Nintendo handheld product manager James Honeywell compared the European sales of the DS with the sales of the PSP.
Until the end of last year the sales of PSP and DS were almost evenly matched as the DS sold only slightly more then the Sony counterpart. But since the beginning of this year Nintendo increased their lead and even more after the launch of the DS Lite in June. The current ratio of the sales of the DS and the DS Lite is 3:1.
With the increased hardware sales also the software sales increased, this lead to the point where publishers are starting to rethink their strategies as they switch development from other formats to the DS. Honeywell mentioned that currently more and more games are taking full advantage of the possibilities of the DS instead of being a simple port from another platform.
