Nintendo announces new Pokemon, Final Fantasy and more for WiiWare (updated!)
Some of the most exciting news to come from Nintendo’s recent press conference was that concerning WiiWare, the upcoming service that will allow players to download original games onto their content (as apposed to the Virtual Console’s retro offering). Numerous new software ventures were announced, two of the biggest confirmed as Pokemon Farm and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Young King and the Promised Land. Head below for details.
At this early stage, as you might imagine, details are fairly scarce.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Young King and the Promised Land
The game will tell the story of what happened in the time after the original Crystal Chronicles. The Little King of the subtitle, who lost his kingdom due to the events of the first game, acquires the power to build structures and uses his newfound talent to revive his fallen kingdom. The game’s genre is described as a “Country Building RPG.”
IGN has tracked down information regarding those who are working on the mini project, and it seems that quite a few famous faces are on board:
This may be a mini project, but it has a series staff list. Serving as director is Kenichiro Yuji, who previously worked on Front Mission Online. Motome Toriyama, of Final Fantasy XII and X-2 fame, is directing the game’s scenario. You’ll recognize Toshiyuki Itahana, art supervisor, and Kumi Tanioka, composer, from past Crystal Chronicles games.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Young King and the Promised Land is expected to arrive alongside the launch of WiiWare in Japan in March 2008, and will cost 1,500 Wii Points to download.
UPDATED: Pokemon Farm
Nintendo confirmed that Pokemon Farm will allow players to transfer their captured critters Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl on the DS, to rear and look after them on the Nintendo Wii. Check out the first screenshots above, which are looking rather basic, even if we do say so ourselves.
Joysound
Joysound is reportedly a WiiWare version of Xing’s Joysound Karaoke machine, reports IGN. The service will feature periodically released music downloads, mini games and more, giving you a dynamically changing karaoke experience in your own home. Developed by Hudson, the firm is planning to release a USB microphone both seperately and as part of a full karaoke game.
Bomberman and Star Soldier R
Both Bomberman and Star Soldier R are thought to be brand new, original titles in the respective series’. Nothing was divulged about Bomberman, although screens of Star Soldier R display an explosive 3D top-down shooter.
UPDATED: Doctor Mario Wii
Nintendo has released the first images of Dr. Mario for the WiiWare download service. We imagine it’ll play almost exactly like the series of old, twisting and turning pills to clear the game screen. In addition, Wiiz reports that the title will be playable online for up to 4 players. You’ll also notice that you’ll be able to use a Mii to represent you onscreen.

Other WiiWare titles
Nintendo also announced the following titles that will be hitting the WiiWare service at some point in the future:
- Mojipittan Wii
What are your thoughts on the latest announcements? Are you looking forward to the WiiWare service?
