New Nanostray 2 details emerge - wi-fi, upgrades and more
2005 saw the release of the original Nanostray for the Nintendo DS, an old school side-scrolling shoot-em-up that was bursting to the brim with the personality, charm and gameplay of titles of old. With Nanostray 2 now well into development, software house Shin’en has unveiled plenty of details about what gamers can expect from what it hopes is a much improved sequel.
If you weren’t a fan of the touch screen in the first Nanostray, three types of control option are now available, including the ability to use the D-pad alone. Otherwise, left and right-handed touch screen controls are available. The stylus is used to control the ship, scroll through weapons and other options.
As for gameplay:
- Alternating for each level between the classic vertical viewmode (as known from Gradius, R-Type) and horizontal viewmode (Ikaruga, DoDon Patchi). This guarantees more challenges and variety between the levels.
- Difficulty settings now change the actual gameplay, not only energy settings.
- No more unlimited continues. Limit to 5 Continues. Continues increase with playtime.
- Much more interesting gameplay due to more interaction with the ambience.
- New Satellite Weapons can be programmed.
- 32 Challenges to solve. Challenges are new designed, no reusing of levels.
Other new additions to Nanostray 2 include automatic Wi-fi upload of high scores; improved visuals; a new weapon and unlock system and more than 20 energetic songs to accompany the adventure.
Nanostray 2 is currently penned down for a release in early 2008.
