Zelda III remake being considered by Nintendo?
The Legend of Zelda III: Link to the Past on the Super Nintendo is seen as one of the best entries into the popular action role-playing franchise and its GBA port only further solidified its standing in the world of RPGs. Now the Eiji Aonuma has spoken out about the possibility of a full remake of the game.
Talking in the latest issue of UK publication ‘Official Nintendo Magazine’, Eiji Aonuma, who led the Twilight Princess project, which has been hailed by critics the world over, stated his wishes to do a 3D remake of Link to the Past, however did not specifically mention a format of choice. Here is what he said on the matter:
“Ocarina of Time was the first title I worked on, and I was continuously tackling challenges every day during its development, so I think this is the title I feel I impacted the most. I believe that experience made me what I am now. I always think about what we couldn’t do and what didn’t work well in the previous game when we start a new title, but there’s no game that I would want to actually change as such. I have to say though, the first Zelda game that I played and felt potential in was Link to the Past. I’m actually very interested in what it would be like if we remade that title as a 3D game.”
In addition to this, Aonuma-san said that he is constantly thinking about what can be achieved with the Zelda franchise in general, trying to come up with fresh, new ideas that will surprise gamers. In terms of graphics, he currently cannot go on record about the approach that the team will take, since it all depends on what visual style will be more suited to the story that is created and the gameplay used. He even teases us by saying the next Zelda game could very well use a graphical approach that nobody has even thought of yet!
Stick with Nintendic for further updates through the day…

I hope the next Zelda uses Abstract Minimalism as its graphical approach.
If this became a reality, I’d pick it up in an instant. I’ve never been much of a fan of the 2D Zelda games, but the 3D ones are awesome. This could give Nintendo a huge sales boost. Not like they need it all that much at this point in time, but it’s something to consider. Hope they develop a new 3D Zelda title soon.
Sometimes it seems like I’m the only one who draws a connection between Twilight Princess and A Link to the Past. It’s not a very common view, but that’s how I see TP; as a remake of Zelda III. (Darker, alternate world turns Link into an animal? Ganondorf recruits another evil dude to do his dirty work? Look at the similarities in the overworld maps.)
