Nintendo unleashes Mii Contest Channel in Europe today
Following the deployment of the Check Mii Out Channel across North America yesterday, Nintendo Europe has confirmed that the new channel can now be downloaded, free of charge, on European Wii consoles as of this morning, 12th November 2007.
European Wii owners were unsure when they would be able to participate in the fun of the Check Mii Out Channel, but thankfully the wait has been nowhere near as long as some expected, with them only having to wait twenty-four hours after the US launch. This brand new Channel gives players the ability to let their creative juices flow as they make their own Mii characters via the Mii Channel and then move their best creations over to the ‘Mii Contest Channel’, which is the official European name for what Americans know as ‘Check Mii Out’. Gamers will be able to enter fun and interactive contests, with the channel being split into two main arenas: Posting Plaza and Contests.
“It couldn’t be simpler to get involved and enter a Mii on the new Channel! To get started, users register on the Mii Contest Channel as a Mii Artisan, selecting a Mii they have made in the Mii Channel to represent them. Once registered as a Mii Artisan, users can upload Miis to the Posting Plaza, where other users from around the world can view them. Users can browse the 50 most popular Miis of all time, today’s top Miis or a random selection. When they see a Mii they like, users can add it to their favourites or even import it to their own Mii Channel. Each month the Channel displays the top 100 Mii Artisans and the top ranking Mii Artisan of the month is awarded the Master Mii Artisan award!”
“Users can also enter Miis for Contests, where they can be judged by other users across the globe. New contest themes are frequently added to the Channel, such as historical figures, literary characters, or simply a personality description and players will be challenged to create a Mii character under that subject. With up to four contests running at any one time, every Mii has the chance to compete! When the contest entry period finishes, it’s time for the judging phase. When it comes to the judging, all Miis entered will be split into groups of ten for users to evaluate. When judging comes to an end, the votes will be counted and the winning Miis will be announced. Players will be able to see how their Mii was rated and also how well the Miis they voted for did in the contest. The Channel will then calculate the player’s ‘Eye for Miis’ – a rating of how good the player is at picking winning Miis.”
On top of this, Wii owners will be able to “view and take home any of the top 50 most popular Miis at the end of a contest, and for some special contests they might even receive a souvenir photograph of their entered Mii!” This is all done in an attempt to bring new, interactive features of the Wii to the world and create a community-based dimension to the already massively successful console. All you have to do is head over to the online Wii Software section of the Wii Shop Channel and set that download going! Below is a video of the channel in action:
