Square Enix and Ubisoft team-up for FFXII on Nintendo DS in Europe
Whilst Square Enix has already confirmed that Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings is coming to mainland Europe early in 2008, the developer has now stated it has signed a publishing agreement with Ubisoft to ensure the Northern European market is not left out in the cold.
In an official Press Release, Ubisoft, maker of Red Steel for Wii, has announced that it has entered into a distribution agreement with Japanese role-playing game behemoth Square Enix in order to bring the the strategic RPG ‘Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings’ to the Nordic territories of Europe in early 2008, in addition to Square Enix’s previous announcement of the game coming to mainland Europe through its own channels.
This DS exclusive is set one year after the events of the best-selling Final Fantasy XII on the PlayStation 2, and Revenant Wings will answers all questions about what happened next to the heroes Vaan, Penelo, Fran and Balthier as players return to the land of Ivalice and meet new characters, visit unexplored locations and embark upon a brand new ‘breath-taking’ adventure.
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings “sees the evolution of the innovative Gambit system that allows automated commands to be issued during real-time combat.” Introducing smart touch-screen controls, the game provides complete power over your actions and allows gamers to play solely using the Nintendo DS stylus. There have been integral differences made to the Westernised version as well, with controls being tweaked to perfection and the difficulty being increased following complaints regarding the Japanese edition (which has sold nearly 600,000 units so far in Japan).
“I am delighted that we are providing fans with another opportunity to enjoy the beautiful world of Ivalice with FINAL FANTASY XII: REVENANT WINGS. With the same high-production values including movies and music, this is a stunning sequel that expands upon the original game and that makes full use of the Nintendo DS hardware.”
- John Yamamoto, President and Chief Executive Officer of Square Enix Ltd.
