Ghostbusters Wii focussed on multiplayer - first scan

The was much excited chatter on the Internet nearly a fortnight ago, with the news that a game based on the new Ghostbusters film was in development. While the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 versions are said to cater for a more traditional gaming audience, the Nintendo Wii and DS builds were said to be aimed at the more casual player - and now we learn, with a focus on a multiplayer experience.

The following is taken from the latest issue of Game Informer in describing the Nintendo Wii Ghostbusters game:

“The storyline from the next-gen version will be carried out in its entirity in our game, but our primary focus is on multiplayer,” said Red Fly’s Jeff Mills. “So we’ll reproduce everything you do in the game, but then we’ll repurposed the maps for various multiplayer things and introduce new maps for multiplayer scenarios as well.”

Jeff Mills has also stated that the Nintendo Wii version of Ghostbusters will feature multiplayer for up to four gamers and that it will act as the lead format for development, before being ported to the PlayStation 2 - should make a nice change from all the software that has made a shift in the other direction over the past year.

Rather than the realistic look of the Xbox 360 and PS3 Ghostbusters, the Nintendo Wii version is cartoon-styled, as apparent from the Game Informer scan (right). It’s hardly looking fantastic at the moment, but with the game not being released until late next year, we’re hopeful that Red Fly Studios can produce something worthy of the license.

I’ve been waiting for this forever. A 4-player cooperative ghostbusters game…now all nintendo needs is a 2player cooperative mario and luigi game…and a 4player cooperative starfox game.

Simply put, this is stupid. The wii is more than capable of having true to life looking characters and I’m sure wii owners (myself included) would much rather see them impliment somewhat realistic looking characters, especially for a game like this which should deliver a “movie like” experience. i don’t give a shit about multiplayer. That is a distant second to presentation of the story and feel of the game. As a HUGE Ghostbusters fan, and a wii owner this is more than disappointing. I can’t afford a PS360. Come on look at Resident Evil 4! That game kicks ass. If anyone important is reading this, PLEASE take a large percentage of pages out of capcom’s masterpiece’s book. God dammit.

Yeah…the wii is more than capable of producing realistic looking characters…but it just would not be able to run 4 player cooperative play with those kind of graphics…yeah..not everyone gives a shit about multiplayer…but im sure the majority do…forget the “movie” experience..how about the Ghostbusters experience…4 ghostbusters…4 players…I dont care for the movie experience..i want to play like im one of the ghostbusters….and what better way then with cooperative…it would be the Ghostbuster’s experience we should be having.

Give it a shot..besides..those screens are early screens..the game doesnt come out till another year…im sure they’ll be able to make it look less bare bones than it does right now
