If mediocre reviews from Japan aren’t enough to put you off, you might be interested to know that Tomy and D3Publishers have announced today that the 3D beat-em-up, Naruto: Ninja Destiny has been confirmed to be released for the Nintendo DS in February this year.

In similar style to its Nintendo GameCube counterpart, Naruto: Clash of Ninja, Ninja Destiny is a 3D beat-em-up, but uses the console’s dual screen to deliver a unique twist on the genre.

The title includes 16 characters, encourages strategic use of power-ups and scenes and storylines from up to the 140th episode of the popular cartoon series. As well as battling alone, Ninja Destiny offers a versus mode as well as wireless multiplayer combat.

“We’ve listened to the fans and made a slew of improvements to the Japanese original, including a much faster frame rate, additional characters, and never-before-seen content,” said Laura Yoshioka, director, consumer software of TOMY Corporation. “Through the innovative use of the dual displays and touch screens, NARUTO: Ninja Destiny will bring the series’ iconic battles to players in a way that is only possible on the DS.”
