Smash Bros. 64 coming to Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console?
Earlier today we were all hit by the saddening (and maddening!) news that Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Nintendo’s Wii has now been delayed a week in Japan to 31st January, 2008 and 9th March over in the US, whilst PAL territories are still left completely in the dark. However, it now seems like there could be some solace for fighting fans, if reports are to be believed.
A news story has popped up over on French website Wiiz.fr claiming that the latest issue of American publication Nintendo Power, the official magazine for Nintendo formats, has news of a special Virtual Console treat coming in the near future. If the story is indeed true, then it appears that the classic original Super Smash Bros. from the Nintendo 64 could be landing on the retro download service to whet our appetites for the impending full Wii sequel. This would indeed make sense given how in the US both Metroid on the NES and Super Metroid on the SNES were released onto the service to build up hype for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Well, this is cool news…but it’d be weird playing the original after playing the much better Melee and the newly-delayed Brawl title. If this is supposed to come as some kind of solace for us Brawl fans, not exactly the kind we were looking for. But, I guess I’ll wait another month as long as the game is revved up from its already-awesome status to one of the most legendary games the world has ever played.
I would like to see it, but the issue of Nintendo Power has this information as a response to someone’s letter, it doesn’t sound so official as it does speculative. I don’t know how to feel about that.
I would like the old smash bros, I actually haven’t played it yet, I also just found out that Brawl won’t come to the UK (where I live) until June 1st.
bye a freeloader like me,nintendo is allways ripping us uk’ers off.ive bought one and it works great
