Monster Lab officially unveiled for Wii and DS
We first learnt about the existence of Eidos’ Monster Lab last August, a title described as “Tim Burton Meets Pokemon.” Back then it was only the Nintendo Wii build we knew about, but today the publisher has officially announced Monster Lab for both Nintendo’s latest home console as well as its portable counterpart.
Nintendo Wii
Nintendo DS
Monster Lab is set in the world of Uncanny Valley where the evil Baron Mharti rules with an iron fist. As a rookie scientist, players are tasked with experimenting with over 100 million monster part variations in order to create one mighty beast. Once formed, their creature can be set out to explore the land to find new parts, battle other monsters or take part in a variety of mini-games. The game’s ultimate goal is to vanquish Baron Mharti and liberate the villagers through mastering experiments, creating a powerful army of monsters and conquering all of the vast environments.
Adding longevity to the Backbone Vancouver-developed Monster Lan is online connectivity for the Nintendo Wii version. Players will be able to pit their monsters against one another as well as trading body parts and other items.
“Monster Lab will offer a wealth of fresh ideas to both Wii and DS players,” said Fabien Rossini, Global Brand Controller, Eidos. “These include gesture based combat, a compelling on-line fighting and trading system and total customization of the player’s monster.”
What the major differences between the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS builds of Monster Lab will turn out to be, we don’t know. Until then check out the latest screenshots (the first in the case of the DS) and we’ll keep you posted.
