Faulty Wiimote wrist strap breaks TV

So there was this guy, who played with is his new Wii non-stop for the past 24 hours, playing Wii Sports Bowling when it happened: During a swing, the wrist strap broke, and the Wiimote flies through the air impaling his 60″ projection TV in the corner of the room. As a result, the Wiimote broke his TV, leaving a crack in screen.

So is this really true? Didn’t the guy just accidentally forgot to do the wrist strap on, which Nintendo says to do so if you start the game, cut the strap and made up a nice story? I think not. IGN experienced the same problem with the Wiimote, only theirs hit the wall instead of the TV.

Let’s hope these are isolated problems, or else it will just be a matter of time before everyone starts suing Nintendo for their broken Wiimotes.

that’s like suing a baseball bat company because you hit yourself with it. people just need to hold on tighter, what the hell is the problem??

So these people don’t know how to hold on to things?

Remind me to not play real sports with them…

Anyways. I figured something like this may happen I mean even the little strap on my phone is taking a fair bit of abuse (I tend to swing it around by the strap) It hasn’t broke (yet) but you can see noticeable wear and tear on it.

Anyways the point of what I’m trying to say is that if you don’t rely on the strap to keep the remote on you it shouldn’t see any (or at least very little) wear and tear… Try holding on to it next time.

Same thing happened to me (Hit the wall)

They use what looks like a 1lb. fishing line on the strap… Yes, I am an idiot for letting it slip out of my hand, but come on, spend another 3 cents and add a strap with balls. I will be calling nintendo about this one. It could have seriously injured someone.

The ONLY reason they have the wrist band is in case you let go of the remote, and clearly the tiny string will not do. They had to know this would be a problem. Is it any wonder they sell the for $1.00 a piece on nintendo.com

Thar happened to me. I was playing Red Steel, and I was learning how to use the katana. Anyways, I was practicing a down swipe, and the strap broke, and the wiimote smashed on the floor…Luckily I bought two extra ones(for my brothers).

I think I have figured this out, maybe you idiots were born without thumbs so you have a hard time holding things unlike us evolved people…

Yes, I was born without thumbs. So what?

wow, this guy must have been flinging his wiimote pretty hard to throw it, I assume a good distance and have it rape his screen like that. I havent held the wiimote to see how heavy it is but that looks like a pretty hard impact into that screen

The truth is the guy probably got pissed and threw it… Its not that far fetched when you think about past times games have really pissed you off… I went through 4 PS2 controller. Im currently on my 2nd Keyboard and 3rd mouse. O=)

Im pretty sure these people were just a little too engrosed in waving their hands like mad-men… Getting to finally play your Wii must be great, and people are getting carried away and forgetting that they’re achually holding a controller…

This is to all those whining babies, HOLD ON TO THE WiiMOTE, and as a Public safety request NEVER EVER USE AN AXE! it might slip and kill somebody!

That’s total bs, ‘faulty.’ People are just letting go of their GD controllers. Morons! The wrist straps are only breaking if they even really are because they were never meant to anchor things being flung at high velocity, just to stop you from dropping the damn remote. I have never even DROPPED the remote, let alone flung it. Because I am not a moron, at least not about this. You could get in a fair amount of trouble if you ask me for using the word ‘Faulty.’ If I were Nintendo, I’d sue you, and quick. At least make you change what you say.

This guy is either completely retarded or is trying to rip off nintendo. It’s not that hard to hold a freaking game controller.

Comment by Eric on 2006-12-17 18:40:08 | Reply

You guys are idiots who break the straps they are just meant keep the controler from dropping if you accidently let go not keep it attached to your hand when you move it with 50 lbs of force.

Obviously none of you have children. My 9 year olds friend flung the wiimote through my TV. Hands start to sweat, and kids naturally think if they have a wrist strap on than they are safe from such accidents
