EA announces Facebreaker for Nintendo Wii
Despite a number of efforts during the Nintendo Wii’s year-and-a-bit on the market, it could be argued that no developer has really yet to offer a virtual boxing experience that easily trumps Wii Sports’ offering hands down. That’s something Electronic Arts hopes to change with the announcement of Facebreaker.
There aren’t too many details floating about just yet, although it’s clear that EA is aiming for a light-hearted approach to what many see as one of the sporting world’s most violent pursuits. Using fictional characters (such as Romeo, “a Latin lover known for his pelvic thrusts,” and Molotov, “an oversized Russian demolitions expert with a penchant for fighting dirty.”), the firm’s Canadian arm reveal that they have developed a “real-time facial deformation” system that will allow players to literally smash their opponent’s face in like never before.
“We’re very excited to announce FaceBreaker, an all-new franchise from EA SPORTS that is fun, fresh and innovative,” said Peter Moore, president, EA SPORTS. “FaceBreaker reinvigorates one of the great genres in sports videogames. Arcade boxing takes me back to my roots in this industry, and this game signals our shift to adding more approachable fun to our product lineup. In no time at all, you’ll be picking up the controllers and knocking your opponent around the ring, smashing faces, and having a riot.”

No release date as yet other than a vague ‘2008′, but we’ll keep you in the know.
