Parappa inventor’s Wii project announced - Major Minor’s Majestic March
Back in December last year it was confirmed that Masaya Matsuura, the inventor of Parappa the Rapper, was locked away developing an exclusive rhythm title for the Nintendo Wii. Today Majesco Entertainment has confirmed that said game is Major Minor’s Majestic March and is being developed by Nana-OnSha. We’ve got all the latest details below.
Major Minor’s Majestic March turns the Wii Remote into a “special” baton that the game’s band leader, Major Minor (we see what they did there!), uses to attract new band members and collect valuable items as he marches.
Players will march their way through eight environments, penned by renowned New York artist Alan Greenbat. The more recruits they gather, the more instruments will be at their disposal. Majesco reveals that players will be able to add up to 15 in total including brass, woodwinds and percussion. Different combinations will not only alter the sound of the procession, but also the overall composition of tunes.
The aim of the game is to score points based on how well your band plays as a unit, with the numbers racking up if players manage to keep in time despite an array of distractions. Poor playing will result in band members dropping out and could see you failing the current stage. There will be 30 songs to learn and play along to in all, said to be popular tunes known around the world.
“There’s something magical about marching bands that truly captures the imagination. The concept of leading a virtual band that’s reliant on your musicianship is a perfect fit for the interactive capabilities of Wii,” said John Merchant, Marketing Manager, Majesco Europe. “The combined musical and artistic superiority of Matsuura and Greenblat make them a natural choice to deliver.
Major Minor’s Majestic March seems to have adopted a similar approach to Nintendo’s upcoming Wii Music, although how each instrument will be played (making use of the controller’s motion sensitivity) is still unknown. Still, given Matsuura’s reputation in the rhythm game genre, we’re very much looking forward to the end product.
