LEGO Batman Wii: new details, first screenshots
LEGO Batman, the latest franchise to receive the transformation from blocky hero to videogame adventure was first revealed via a teaser video and much self-congratulation by its developer Traveller’s Tales November. While Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 owners have already been treated to screens of their respective machine’s build of the game, it is only now that Nintendo Wii owners are able to get a glimpse at their console’s version. And it ain’t lookin’ half bad at all.
Via NGamer magazine, CVG has managed to bag a preview of the upcoming Traveller’s Tales action title, which as well as showing the game’s visuals off also reveals new details. One of the most important is the game’s narrative, which is not shackled by any upcoming film releases. Instead, the title is based on the somewhat slapstick, fun-natured approach adopted by the 1960s TV series. As such, numerous Batman baddies (including Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, Harlequin, Killer Croc and Scarecrow) are out and about terrorising Gotham City and only Batman and Robin can stop them:
“All the bad guys are on the loose. They’ve banded together into a few distinct groups, each with their own particular master plan, and only Batman and Robin can stop them!” enthused Traveller’s Tales Jonathan Smith.
Like the LEGO Star Wars Games, LEGO Batman is all about fun and simple gameplay, and Smith promises that the Wii Remote will come into use to perform “different special abilities.” He adds
“Because you’ll be playing with those two characters through much of the game, we’ve worked hard to give each of them lots of cool moves. There are a lot of things you won’t have seen in a LEGO game before, and lots of abilities which could only belong to Batman and Robin.
These abilities include but are not limited to: targetable Batarangs, wall-jumping and wall-walking for Robin, tightrope walking, gliding, powerful punch and kick combos and more.”
CVG goes into a lot more detail in its preview. Head on over to learn about LEGO Batman’s various modes, vehicles, hidden characters and more.
Before you do, though, let us know your thoughts on how the game is shaping up in the comments section below. LEGO Batman is currently scheduled for release in Autumn 2008.
