Wii Remote patent features teddies, bicycles and headwear

One eagle-eyed fella over at 22hundred.net was browsing the UK Patent website the other day when he came across a variety of registered submissions from Nintendo that show a number of casings in which the Wii Remote can be slotted into to create new peripherals (a la the Wii Zapper). Amongst some of the more expected suggestions (a bat, fishing rod and tennis racquet) are more bizarre ideas including using the Wii Remote with skateboards, helmets and bicycles…

The zapper peripheral looks very much like Nintendo’s original concept for the Wii Zapper before it opted for a bulkier, machine gun-like appearance for the accessory. Other familiar faces (in videogaming terms at least) are the steering wheel and joystick.

Then, however, it starts to get a little bit weird, with Nintendo seeming to suggest that the Wii Remote can be used in headsets, chairs, bicycles, teddy bears and skateboards. Whether they’re only intention is to keep the ideas safe from being pilfered by others whilst never planning to build them, it’s still an interesting discovery.

Let us know your thoughts on any of the patents displayed above.
