Just as we were moaning about the lack of news concerning Mario Kart Wii yesterday, the latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu confirms the April 10 release date, details old and new courses and reveals that the racer will include Mii compatibility.

As we rumoured yesterday, Famitsu has confirmed that Mario Kart Wii will be released in Japan on April 10, giving hope for a localised build of the game in North America and Europe this summer. Re-confirmed facts that Famtisu details are Wi-Fi mutliplayer for 12 players and the inclusion of motorcycles with the ability to perform stunts.

As for the 16 new tracks::

• Mushroom Canyon
• Toad Factory

Flower Cup

• Mario Circuit
• Coconuts Mall
• DK Snowboard Cross
• Wario Mines

Old:

Shell Cup

• Peach Beach (GameCube)
• Yoshi Falls (Nintendo DS)
• Ghost Swamp 2 (SFC)
• Mario Circuit (Nintendo 64)

Banana Cup

• Sherbert Island (Nintendo 64)
• Hey Ho Beach (Game Boy Advance)
• Monty Town (Nintendo DS)
• Waluigi Stadium (GameCube)

Two more key details are that players will able to substitute their Mario Kart character for their customised Mii (in which game modes this will be possible isn’t yet known, however), and also that a 4 player split screen mode is included.

According to Eurogamer, the stated Japanese release date for Mario Kart Wii of April 10 is nothing more than a unconfirmed chatter - “Rumour, I’m afraid,” a spokesperson for the firm said. Adding, “Nothing has been announced.”
