Okami Wii - no new gameplay additions confirms Capcom
Capcom’s Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business, one Christian Svensson, has recently spilled a few beans about the port of action-RPG Okami to the Nintendo Wii. Head inside for all the lastest goss on graphics, controls and more from the official Capcom message boards.
Svensson stated that the reason we haven’t heard much about the Nintendo Wii port of Okami was because Capcom wanted to make sure that it was an improvement over the Sony PlayStation 2 original beforehand. With that feat accomplished (“[Okami Wii] is even more beautiful than it was on the PS2.”, he promised that we will receive more information and in-game media very soon.
One of Okami’s biggest draws (literally as far as the Nintendo Wii version goes) is the ability to draw paintbrush strokes with the Wii Remote. Svensson explained that learning to do so would take players around 10 minutes, after which the process should feel effortless, giving a great physical feeling and affecting the game’s pacing (in a good way, we assume).
As for Okami’s gameplay, Svensson confirmed that no new extras had been added to the Wii version, but that “40-60 hours of content is plenty for anyone. It doesn’t need more bosses. Most people complain that the game is too long as it is. And you could read a few threads around here asking us to shorten or cut it (which we also didn’t do).” Without revealing anything, however, he did add that there will be reason enough for those who bought the original version of Okami to also buy the Wii re-release. What reasons, though, he didn’t say.
In a few more tidbits of information, Svensson confirmed that the development process for Okami was going well, although there were still a few niggles and bugs to iron out before it is ready to produce and ship.
Finally, he writes “…spread the Okami gospel across the net, my sons and daughters…all of you Wii fanatics better have Okami pre-ordered by now because that’s the next test (and it’s waaay better with Wii controls, than it was on PS2… it’s very different, in a good way).”
Okami for the Nintendo Wii is scheduled for release in North America on March 25. As for a European release, Svensson confirmed that there would be a slight delay, but nothing as big as that between the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl in the USA and across the pond. Hoorah for small mercies.
