Eidos Interactive has confirmed that a “Special Edition” version of Backbone Entertainment’s Death Jr. 2: Root of Evil (originally released on the Sony PlayStation Portable) is currently in development for the Nintendo Wii.

1UP reports that Death Jr. 2: Root of Evil will be the first time that the franchise will have appeared on a home console format (following two PSP outings and one on the Nintendo DS.

Backbone producer James Stanley explained that compared to the PSP version, the Wii game will offer more polygons, higher-resolution textures, better pacing, split screen co-operative play, extra voice acting and more - so, quite a bit of an improvement, it seems.

However, Stanley explains that it is Root of Evil’s controls that are the main reason gamers should take interest, saying:

The ability to use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to not only have precise aiming and control of the camera, but to easily switch back and forth between melee and ranged combat mode is ideal.

The title centers on the adventures of DJ: just your average, everyday kid who happens to be the son of the Grim Reaper. Supported by a cast of fellow outcasts, DJ is constantly getting into scrapes and must unleash some furious scythe and gun action to get out of them. In Death, Jr. 2: Root of Evil, DJ and his friends are charged with stopping a powerful spirit.

Root of Evil for the Nintendo Wii is currently scheduled for a release this Spring.
