At a recent analyst presentation this week, Electronic Arts has outlined some of its plans for the year ahead concerning both its Sports and Casual brands. There was mention of “exciting new innovations” for the likes of FIFA Soccer and Madden, while an array of new MySims games were also promised.

Electronic Arts’ Casual Entertainment arm, it has been confirmed, is planning to unleash a number of new Sim-branded titles. Nodding towards the success of MySims on the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS last year (games that sold in excess of 3 million units between them), EA Casual Entertainment president Kathy Vrabeck explained that two new MySims games would appear on the Nintendo DS by March 2009.

The first, MySims Kingdom will launch on both main Nintendo platforms between the beginning of October and the end of December, while MySims Party will follow (again for both Wii and DS) between January and March 2009.

Other new Sim titles cited included SimCity Creator and SimAnimals, along with the “next generation game for The Sims,” although no specific formats were mentioned with these.

In related news, EA Sports president Peter Moore revealed that the firm had plans to launch a total of five new franchises within the next three years, the first of which will arrive sometime between the 2009 fiscal year (April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009). It is described as a “casual IP” that will sit alongside the likes of the recently announced boxing title FaceBreaker, and last year’s mini-game-filled Playground. The other four are said to be among the sport label’s “core IP” and will arrive by the end of 2011 fiscal year, which concludes on March 31, 2011.

Moore also stated that the next entries in the Madden NFL, FIFA Soccer and NBA Live videogames would include “exciting new innovations.” What these are, we’ll just have to wait and see.
