Frontier’s LostWinds gusts onto WiiWare
No sooner than Nintendo had confirmed that WiiWare would be arriving on North American consoles this coming May, has developer Frontier Developments announced its first title for the platform. LostWinds is described as “a high quality, enchanting adventure bursting with new ideas that embrace the innovative controller of the Wii.”
Crafted using Frontier Development’s in-house 3D graphics engine, players utilise the power of Enril the wind spirit, who has the power to control the wind (from the gentlest breeze to raging tornadoes). The onjective is to guide and protect Toku, a a young boy who is the only one who can help you release the curse placed upon the world of Mistralis by evil Balasar.
Gamers will jump, glide and direct Toku through Mistralis’ numerous regions, smashing enemies and solving puzzles on their way to a victorious end.
“LostWinds is an innovative game, and an exciting project for many reasons,” commented David Braben. “Not least the fact that it’s one of the large number of excellent concepts that have arisen through our long running internal forum discussions on game ideas. Frontier is packed full of talented game enthusiasts, and contributing creative ideas and feedback is actively encouraged. WiiWare offers a perfect extra outlet for that creativity, and I hope that LostWinds is the first of many games that will follow this process.”
LostWinds is reported to be launching alongside WiiWare on May 12 in North America. Until then, check out the first four screenshots above and let us know your thoughts on the project in the comments section below.
