LEGO Indiana Jones dated, new Wii and DS details [updated!]

Of the many firms showing off their latest wares at the Game Developers Conference this week, LucasArts pitched up in a San Francisco hotel to show off LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, and revealed a number of nuggets of information on the upcoming Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS builds of the multi-format title.

The game’s hub area is Barnett College, the establishment where Indy teaches his students. It’s here that players gain access to the LEGO Indiana Jones’ 18 levels, split across three chapters - each one a parody of the films in the franchise’s original trilogy.

As for the gameplay, we know that LEGO Indiana Jones will be more adventure-orientated than its combat-filled Star Wars counterparts, although the game’s puzzles will have an element of extra depth. While most tasks are designed for two players, up to four gamers will be able to work through the title co-operatively.

Regarding the Wii controls, none-too-surprisingly, gestures will be used for whipping, although they will function as they did in the Wii version of LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga - i.e. not 1:1 remote-to-whip action. On the Nintendo DS side the coin, players will use the stylus to whip, and the microphone to perform tasks such as blowing out candles and puffing up inflatable rafts.

LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures is scheduled for release for the Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii on June 03, 2008.

UPDATE

Developer Traveller’s Tales has spoken out to dispell confusion over LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Trilogy’s co-operative mode. It does not in fact support four players as reported by MTV Multiplayer.

“Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures will feature the user friendly drop-in/drop-out two-player cooperative feature that players have come to know and love,” Shawn Storc noted in an email to the original report’s author, reports GamesIndustry. “However, we are not expanding this feature to a higher player count. “I certainly do apologize for any confusion that has arisen; we must have been in a Lego-induced haze at the Collector’s Party.”
