The Nintendo Wii version might’ve been canned indefinitely, but proof that its handheld cousin is well on its way to arrival have been confirmed by 2K Games today, having announced that Sid Meier’s Civilization: Revolution for the Nintendo DS will be released in Europe on June 06, 2008.

Civilization Revolution sees players striving to create and sustain a living, breathing society from the dawn of man all the way up to the space age - waging war, conducting diplomacy, discovering technologies, going head-to-head with some of history’s greatest leaders, and building the most powerful empire the world has ever known.

“Civilization Revolution is the game I’ve always wanted to make!” said Sid Meier, Director of Creative Development at Firaxis Games when the game was announced last June. “We are excited to take advantage of the power of next generation consoles and the ingenuity of handhelds, to create a great and unique strategy game for newcomers to the series, as well as the millions of fans around the world who enjoy Civilization on the PC.”

Civilization Revolution is the first time that the successful series has shifted from its, arguably more suitable home, on the PC, but a new streamlined interface and new graphical touches (and the DS’ touch screen let’s not forget) hope to make it just as fulfilling an experience on consoles. On a related note, the title will launch in North America a few days earlier than Europe, on June 03.
