Square Enix brings FFXIII Engine to Nintendo Wii
Square Enix has touted its extremely powerful White Engine development tool as being how it was set to produce mind-blowing graphics on the PlayStation 3. This has already been demonstrated by the revelation of the fantastic graphical prowess of both Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII: Versus on Sony’s platform. However, along with a name change, the engine has been reworked for Wii.
Coming as a major surprise at this year’s Game Developers’ Conference over in San Francisco, North America, Role-Playing Game heavyweight developer Square Enix has revealed that its White Engine tool has now in fact been renamed as ‘Crystal Tools’. But not only this, the company’s impressive 3D game development engine has now been completely tweaked and tinkered with in order to support the market-leading Wii console from Nintendo. Below is a trailer from the PlayStation 3 game, Final Fantasy XIII - could something like this eventually be possible on Wii?
The General Manager for the Japanese firm’s Research and Development Division, Taku Murata, shed light on the amended name, plus how the company is planning on using the Crystal Tools for multi-platform development of key games, including not only PlayStation 3 and Wii, but also the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, as well as Personal Computers. Murata-san had this to say on the issue:
“Crystal Tools will also be used in the development of Square Enix’s upcoming next-gen MMORPG. Some of the “Crystal Tools” features will work on the Wii, although it’s a secret.”
But does this mean that Wii could very well be seeing a version or spin-off edition of Final Fantasy XIII at some point in the future? Given how successful the Wii has been so far, it certainly would not be too surprising, especially given how the platform appears to only just really be hitting its stride, despite already obliterating the competition on a worldwide basis.

No way Square Enix can get FF XIII visuals on a Wii. No possible way.
I bet games will suck and have bad graphics. White Engine only works good for PS3 it was biult for it in mind.
