Tom Clancy’s Endwar confirmed for Nintendo DS
After months of rumour and speculation, reports suggest that Ubisoft’s “built from the ground-up for next-generation consoles” real-time strategy title, Tom Clancy’s Endwar, will also be making its way onto the Nintendo DS. The confirmation, reports Wiiz, was made by game designer Michael de Plater at last weeks Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.8/7

Set in the near future, Tom Clancy’s Endwar centres on a world where tensions between the US, Europe and Russia are at boiling point following an shortage in oil supplies across the globe, and the planned launch of a US space station that houses marines - soldiers who can deploy to attack anywhere in the world within 90 minutes. A group of terrorists attacks the launch site at the Kennedy Space Center amidst international outcry at the US’ proposals, an event that sparks anger between the US, Europe and Russia with the momentum to initiate a full-scale global war.
There are 3 playable factions in EndWar: The Russian Spetsnaz Guard Brigade, the European Federation Enforcers Corps, and the United States’ Joint Strike Force, plus a fourth NPC terrorist faction. The Spetznaz Guard Brigade is composed of veterans of Russia’s many regional conflicts; the Joint Strike Force is modeled after today’s Marine Expeditionary Units and is composed of army units; the JSF is built around small, fast, and light units, specialising in state-of-the-art stealth technology and battlefield robotics, while the Enforcers Corps is made up of veteran elite counter-terrorist and peacekeeping forces from throughout Europe.
We’ve no specific details on the Nintendo DS version of Endwar just yet, but no doubt we’ll hear more about it in the coming months as its release date (sometime between now and March 2009 - sigh) closes in.
