Nintendo launches Wii TV Guide Channel in Japan
The Wii menu of Japanese gamers just got a little more crowded today, thanks to the release of a brand new channel in the region - the Wii TV Guide. In the main it’s as innovative as it sounds, although Nintendo has factored in a couple of new features to tempt people into actually using it.
The Wii TV Channel displays a comprehensive page of television listings, but as you’d imagine, you have to switch away from your Wii completely to watch whatever takes your fancy. That said, the Wii Remote can be used as a television ‘zapper’, which makes up a little.
So far, so average. Perhaps the best features of the Wii TV Guide Channel involves its community options. Should you have added Friends Codes, you’ll be able to sneak a peek at what they’re planning to watch, as well as spying what star rating they have given their favourite shows.
What we like best, however, is the ability to register your e-mail address or mobile phone number. With these details tapped it, Nintendo will send you an automated message 30 minutes before it starts as a handy reminder.
At present there are no planned release dates for the Wii TV Guide in North America or Europe.
