Virtual Console cross region purchasing
The problem of region compatibility is as old as consoles itself but in this digital distribution era it’s much more convenient to get a game from across the border. Virtual Console games in the various regions differ quite a lot from each other and you’re out of luck if your favorite one isn’t among them, or aren’t you?
A visitor from website Go Nintendo sent in a video demonstrating how to play Virtual Console games from other regions. Unfortunately you can only download games from regions which use the same television standard. I am for instance a Dutch user with a PAL television standard and thus can only download games from other PAL regions like New Zealand. In the video below you see how this is done. This method has a few downsides unfortunately, first of all you need to sign in to another region to download these games and also if you want to play them. Secondly, no one knows if, and when Nintendo might do something about this. The worst case scenario for the latter is that you could possibly lose the games you bought in a different region.
You should definitely mute the sound while watching this video, it’s just terrible.
