Wall-E Wii - platform specific details, first screenshots

Wall-E, the story of a lonely robot abandoned on Earth by all of mankind is currently what Pixar is hoping will provide its next blockbuster film this summer, and, unsurprisingly, it’s also being transformed into a videogame for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. Today we learn about the first details of the Wii build of the title, as well as something pleasantly surprising about its graphics engine.

Wall-E is a robot designed to collect rubbish, and that’s just what the game revolves around… although we’re led to believe by IGN that it isn’t all as monotonous as it sounds, as the big-eyed hunk of junk befriends a number of cockroaches and spends his time solving block-based puzzles (players will use the Wii Remote and Nunchuck to do so, with some impressive physics said to be involved), as well as running-and-gunning, and partaking in Wii-exclusive mini-games.

Best of all (not that too many players will care), Wall-E’s graphical engine is scaled down from the Microsoft Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 builds of the game, not bumped up from the Sony PlayStation 2 version, as has so often been the fate of multi-format Wii titles so far (and a trend we expect to continue as the number of PS2 releases continues to diminish). While textures, draw distance and polygon count are noticeably lower than its more powerful rivals, Wall-E Wii is said to very much old its own regardless.

Expect to welcome Wall-E alongside the release of the film this summer.
