There is no doubt at all about just how well Nintendo is doing in Japan right now. Whilst the GameCube struggled to surpass the four million mark in its entire lifetime, the Wii has easily flown passed that milestone in just over a year on the market and the Nintendo DS has overtaken the twenty-one million PlayStation 2 sales in half the time on sale.

But in terms of the 2007 fiscal year, which ran from 1st April, 2007 until 31st March, 2008, it looks like matters on the hardware front appeared to be rather closer than expected. However, on the software side Nintendo dominated so much that not one Third Party was able to crack the Top Five best selling titles, all going off Famitsu sales figures.

By far and away the Nintendo DS was the best-selling platform, with more than 6.3 million hardware units being passed on to eager consumers, whilst Wii was quite a way behind, with just over 3.74 million units being sold. In a comparison to the Japanese market in the 2006 fiscal year, there was a combined hardware and software increase of 3.8 per cent in the fiscal year 2007 to Japanese Yen 677 billion (~US$6.59 billion / EUR 4.23 billion).
