If we know anything, we know that pornography is an evolving beast. With pornography ultimately deciding that VHS won the format war when put against Betamax tapes because of price and the length of the movie that could be held (debatable), the pornography industry really is on top of being on the cutting edge of technology. With gaming consoles that provide web browsers, this observation is no different.
With the web browser having only been barely out a week, it’s quite surprising to see so many different websites becoming Wii-friendly so quickly. We’re noticing a lot that’s being done to keep the Wii userbase happy. It’s actually pretty nice because when we all first browsed the net on our SDTVs, it was sometimes difficult to make certain words out or press tiny buttons that you could barely see. There’s many sites that have now fixed this minor problem. Here at Nintendic, we don’t promote nor demote pornography, so we’ll keep the browsing to you.
While you’re visiting one of these sites with a browser other than the specialized Opera browser for the Wii, the changes are invisible. You’ll probably notice bigger buttons, and slight interface changes to accommodate your Wii when browsing on it. Of course there are other sites that don’t offer adult content, but do offer ease of use for your Wii browser. Wiicade.com is an example of one of those sites that’s made specifically for the Wii browser; it lets you play flash games pretty easily with big buttons and no-nonsense clicking. The porn sites just seem to be moving the ball quicker as a whole.
An anonymous user sent this email to arstechnica.com and it makes some valid points:
So shortly after getting the trial version of opera on the Wii I went to a free adult site [edited] to look at some photos. Yesterday I went back and… well apparently either the site maintainers are Wii enthusiasts or I’m not the only one. The site has added a “Wii friendly” interface for browsing their content. I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised the adult industry seems to always know where technology is going, but I’m surprised to see it so quick. The browser hasn’t been available but for a week now.
The Wii is becoming more and more popular each day, which means more and more people will be using it. It’s inevitable to see more action taken to make those users more comfortable with their Wii remotes in hand as mouses.
