Remember how Reginald Fils-Aime recently promised that something special would be revealed at the E3 business event in July? Well, perhaps one of the games he was alluding to was F-Zero for Wii, which has apparently been uncovered by German website ‘Planet Nintendo’. Will we soon be zooming through futuristic locations using the Wii Remote for sliding expertly around corners, or is this all just yet another hoax?

The F-Zero franchise has never been able to reach the heights of the original Super Nintendo game’s sales despite stellar efforts hitting the Nintendo 64 (F-Zero X), GameCube (the SEGA-developed F-Zero GX) and Game Boy Advance (F-Zero: Maximum Velocity, GP Legend, and the Japan-only Climax). But Nintendo has continued to push the game that pre-dated the WipEout franchise and has out-lasted the Extreme-G series of racers by bringing the SNES and Nintendo 64 games to the Virtual Console over the past year.

Now, if Planet Nintendo is to be believed, Nintendo is on the cusp of revealing the first Wii-specific edition, under the moniker ‘F-Zero Z’. With the Nintendo Media Summit currently underway in San Francisco, there is a chance this could be true, but many sources believe the logo released is a poorly created Photoshop product. If true, however, the game is said to include Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection support and various weapons. Nintendo Europe has been contacted about the rumour, but the obvious response was the standard line of “F-Zero Wii is rumour and speculation.”
