Telltale Games announces Strong Bad WiiWare project

After revealing earlier on in the week that today would be the day that it unveiled its plans for WiiWare, Telltale Games has announced that, in partnership with Videlectrix, it is bringing episodic gaming to the download service in the form of Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People (SBCG4AP).

Based on the hugely popular animated Internet cartoon, Homestar Runner (in which Strong Bad is one of the central characters), Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People will feature the self-proclaimed coolest person ever, bringing Matt and Mike Chapman’s creation to life in five episodes, one released each month.

Each release is said to play out like an extended episode of the cartoons, in which players take control of Strong Bad’s actions, listening in on his innermost thoughts and becoming part of his world. SBCG4AP features the cast of characters and locations from the Homestarrunner.com cartoons, and the games are fully voice acted by Matt Chapman and the rest of the original cast.

Gameplay in SBCG4AP will unfold in the form of character interaction, dialogue-based puzzles and the use of inventory items. Other distractions in the story-driven series will include checking Strong Bad’s e-mails, making prank phone calls and mini-games styled after the arcade games on Homestarrunner.com.

“Telltale has been rejecting my ideas for green text adventures for years,” laments thousandaire gadabout Strong Bad, “but we finally reached a compromise with this puffy 3D point-and-click-em-up adventure. They claim all the coding was done with green text, so I guess that’s pretty cool.”

“Homestarrunner.com is one of the biggest success stories in online entertainment,” says Telltale CEO Dan Connors. “The Chapmans have been treating the Internet to episodic content for years. We’re thrilled to have teamed up with them to take episodic gaming to the next level via Nintendo’s innovative WiiWare delivery system.”

The a trailer on the official website for Strong Bad WiiWare lets slip that the title will arrive in June. Pricing is still a mystery, however.
