Bakushow (LOL) confirmed for Europe
After confirming LOL for the Nintendo DS in North America last month, Rising Star Games has confirmed that it will be bringing the strictly-multiplayer, Pictionary-alike title to Europe this July, under a new name - Bakushow.
In essence, Bakushow encourages players to create their own game, allowing between two and four players to host what is described as a mix between their own gameshow and charades. The ‘host’ proposes questions to the other DS owners, teasers that much then be answered via the wonders of the handheld’s touch screen. After the results are in, players vote on one another’s competency over a number of rounds, before a winner is crowned.
Developer Agetec suggests that the likes of unfinished drawings, Sudoku-style puzzles and multiple choice questions are among the type of challenges that players can set one another, in a game that is “never the same twice!
Key Features:
- With just one game card, between two and four people can play at a time. Each will need their own Nintendo DS!
- Bakushow does not use the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Your friends need to be within wireless range to play with you
- Save your favourite answers for eternity
- Great for play whilst travelling, on holiday or any place where friends get together
- No single player mode is included so Billy No Mates need not apply!
“We decided not to include a single player mode in the game because that would defeat the purpose. This game was created to be a social game that allows you interact on and off Nintendo DS with your friends,” said Mark Johnson, the producer. “LOL [American name] concentrates on the comedic joy of using the imagination of everyone in the room.”
“LOL is a game with endless possibilities that can be played for hours and hours of non-stop entertainment,” said Hiro Fukuoka, producer at Agetec. “As long as you are a fun-loving person with a little bit of an imagination, there should be no reason you find LOL to be anything less than a great time with your friends. It maximizes your creative abilities and puts a fun twist to it.”
Here’s hoping Bakushow is a budget title in Europe, as in America it is rumoured to ship for just $20 USD.

Quite interesting how Agetec is taking the credit for this when it was actually Kenichi Nishi’s project. The game was known as Archime-DS in Japan and didn’t even make the Media Create Top 50…but Nishi-san (who works with Skip of Chibi-robo fame and his own company ‘Route24′, as well as previously working with Squaresoft in the past on games like Mario RPG) did state that he wanted the game to come overseas. He loves all things British, so no doubt he’ll be pleased it’s definitely coming here
Seems just like the type of quirky title that is perfect for the Nintendo DS. A bit of promotion would probably do wonders for it. Let’s just hope it’s not released at a rip-off price over here. =P
True. In Japan it was the equivalent of £9.99, so here’s hoping RSG follows suit.
