Ace Attorney spin-off - new details detected
Earlier on this week, the pages of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu revealed that Capcom is currently working on a brand new spin-off title to the hugely successful Phoenix Wright series on the Nintendo DS. The main details from an interview with the game’s producers (also in the latest issue) has now been translated, allowing all us non-Japanese speakers to learn of a few more nuggets of information about Miles Edgeworth: Perfect Prosecutor, as it has been unofficially christened by gamers.
Famitsu chatted to the producers of Perfect Prosecutor (or Gyakuten Kenji as it is known in Japan), who revealed that Shu Takumi, the director of the Ace Attorney franchise, is not involved in the development of the current spin-off, which is currently around 40 per cent complete.
They also let slip that the storyline is set some time around that of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 3 - Trials and Tribulations, and that other well-known characters from the series will be showing their faces. As for gameplay, they divulge that Perfect Prosecutor’s main focus will be on investigation, not necessarily the courtroom drama (the screenshots from the magazine scans [above] seem to compound this idea too).
As we learnt on Wednesday, Perfect Prosecutor strays from Phoenix Wright’s text-based adventure, into what appears to be something more along the lines of a graphical, point-and-click adventure. Players take control of Miles Edgeworth, a prosecutor who is on the hunt for new evidence and inconsistencies in cases in order to get to the bottom of heinous crimes.
There’s no hint of a release date in Japan just yet, neither when or if the title will receive a localisation outside of the territory - given the success of its predecessors though, chances are likely that it will.
