Square Enix has previously revealed that it would be bringing Dragon Quest IV, V and VI to the Nintendo DS, and considering the success of Dragon Quest VIII in the US and Europe, it was expected that the chances of seeing these DS remakes in the West would be quite high. When Final Fantasy IV was announced for a July release in the US recently, though, with no word of initial release Dragon Quest IV, people began to worry. Now, however, it seems the fears were unjustified.

The good folk over at Siliconera have spotted that on the US Patents and Trademarks Office there are a couple of new listings for Square Enix. The first is Crystal Core, which is thought to just be related to the company’s Crystal Tool set, since it is a trademark for “computer software for use in the development of computer games and/or video games”, not just video game software.

The more intriguing one, though, has to be Chapters of the Chosen, which is stated to be “computer game software; video game software”. Considering the Japanese sub-title for Dragon Quest IV on Nintendo DS was ‘The Chosen Ones’, it seems pretty logical that this is indeed going to be the Western name for the highly regarded role-playing game, developed by Artepiazza (the folk behind Opoona on Wii) for Square Enix and based upon the never-before-released in the West PSone remake of the original Famicom game. Throw in the fact that the Japanese ROM already includes partially translated English, German, Spanish and French scripts hidden away, and the idea of ‘The Chosen Ones’ being linked with Dragon Quest IV does not seem too far-fetched at all.

However, no confirmation has been provided yet from Square Enix, but a full Press Release is indeed expected in the coming weeks to clarify matters. For now, though, check out this video clip of the Japanese version, easily the best RPG experience for DS so far, which has sold over 1.2 million copies in Japan already (with Dragon Quest V DS rumoured to be coming out around July over there):
