Miyamoto chats new Wii Fit content, new Zelda games
Nintendo recently held an event in New York City, at which the game’s inventor Shigeru Miyamoto attended. There (amongst lots of Wii Fit chatter), he revealed that there were discussions over providing new content for the title, as well as revealing that the Zelda team were re-forming to begin work on new games.
On the topic of add-on content for Wii Fit, Miyamoto, reports GameDaily, divulged that there is talk amongst Nintendo’s ranks to deliver extras either via the Wii Fit Channel or through Nintendo DS connectivity. The latter offers the greater potential, we reckon, allowing gamers to take their personalised Wii Fit profile wherever they go.
In a separate interview with 1UP, Miyamoto was questioned about the unrest amongst some core gamers, particularly in concern that Nintendo is ditching their priorities for a casual audience, or that established brands are being dumbed down for the masses. The creator of Mario, Zelda and many other defended the firm’s stance, stating:
“I think we’d gotten to a point where videogames were something that everyone could no longer enjoy. As a designer, I’m always focusing on what is fun - ideas that people can enjoy. For me, I’m trying to entertain as many people as I can, creating games that the widest number of people can enjoy.
“Of course, that being said, we do have the existing teams at Nintendo working on the kinds of products we’ve always made over the years. The Zelda team is forming again to work on new games! But to me, it’s about finding these new interactive experiences and bringing them to people.”
When we’ll hear about either of the above developments is anyone’s guess, but we’re already getting excited.
