Players dump gyms in favour of Nintendo Wii

In a trend that shows just how influential gamers see the Nintendo Wii as a machine for exercise as well as gaming (or, indeed, both at the same time), a recent survey has revealed that many would consider cancelling their gym membership in favour of working out with their Wiis.

According to statistics from a survey conducted by TNS Technology, 20% of the 16 to 24-year olds questioned stated that they would consider ousting the gym from their lives; instead sticking to the sweat-inducing play of Wii Sports and Wii Fit instead.

Amongst other figures about the console’s positive social impact, the TNS survey also discovered that 66% of parents agreed that the Wii helps their 10 to 15-year old children get more exercise.

It’s all looking like a great set up Nintendo prepares Wii Fit (already a huge success in Japan and Europe) for its release in North America.

Uumm…only 20% of the those surveyed said that they would drop the gym routine for the Wii routine. That’s not a very good percentage if you ask me.

Of course its high. If you told all the gyms in North America they were going to lose 20% of their members, they would be annoyed and rightly so.
