Ubisoft announces Protothea for WiiWare
Developer Ubisoft has announced its first offering for WiiWare this week, and it looks to be playing things cautious with it being a remake of the 2005 PC top-down shooter, Protothea.
Players are placed in the shoes of a spaceship pilot on a mission to destroy one massive asteroid, the Maqno 01, whilst also thwarting the plans of the political group, The Core - whose members want to extract minerals from the soaring mass of space rock to create an army of bio-machines.
Although a port, Ubisoft is promising extras for the WiiWare build of Protothea, including an additional three missions (bringing the total to 10); new power-ups, 50 enemies instead of the original 40, and also now appearing in full 3D.
“Ubisoft is excited to bring Protöthea exclusively to the platform and we feel it’s a must-have WiiWare title,” said James Regan, vice president of third party operations, Ubisoft. “Protöthea really reminds me of some of the best arcade games, with the Wii Remote as an added dimension. It’s just a flurry of fast-paced action that anyone can simply pick up and enjoy.”
Protothea will be launched on WiiWare this May and’ll cost 1000 Wii Points.
