Skate announced for Wii and DS, Balance Board supported

Pro skateboarder Tony Hawk has pretty much had it all his own way for years in the skateboarding videogame genre - that was until Electronic Arts sprung a surprise with Skate for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 last year. Its analog control-focused trickery gave Tony a kick up the arse for once… but its biggest draw (the controls) meant it wasn’t suited to either the Nintendo Wii or Nintendo DS’ default input. Now, however, EA has announced Skate It, a Wii and DS spin-off, set to give owners of Nintendo consoles the skating fix they’ve been waiting for.

EA’s Scott Blackwood promised (Scout’s honour) that his team weren’t going to bring Skate to Nintendo platforms until they were convinced they could do it justice, so here’s hoping they live up to that. The EA man also revealed that Skate will support the Wii Balance Board (“People that try it really seem to be digging it”, and that the Nintendo DS version of the game will support multi-cart…no full-blown online mode to speak of, however.

Skate It will be released at an unconfirmed date sometime this year.
