AudioOdyssey - a Wii game for the visually impaired
The Nintendo Wii has already made a name for itself in enticing non-gamers and those who lead an sedentary lifestyle into playing its software, and no one developer is aiming to woo a group of society to which videogaming is almost a no-go area - the blind and visually impaired.
Described as an experimental title designed to be accessible to both the visually impaired and mainstream gamers alike, AudioOdyssey sees players starring as Vinyl Scorcher, an up-and-coming DJ on a quest to get the world to dance.
Similar to SEGA’s Samba de Amigo, the game will see players shaking the Wii Remote in time with a musical beat.
AudiOdyssey was developed with four research goals:
- The visually-impaired and the sighted can enjoy the same level and quality of gameplay
- Navigate game’s menus with ease and efficiency approaching that of conventional UIs
- Create a fun and natural control scheme using the Wiimote
- An engaging game that relies more on high quality audio than visuals
Certainly an interesting, not to mention worthwhile, concept.

Sounds like it could be a strong rythm game, so long as it isn’t too easy. I hope they make it quality.
