Igor dated for Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS
The announcement that a deal to develop a videogame based on the upcoming movie, Igor, was first announced way back in December 2007, and in anticipation of its release later on this year, the first details of the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS builds have been divulged.
Igor, the movie, follows a hunchbacked lab assistant named Igor forced to serve a mad scientist while dreaming of one day becoming a notorious mad scientist himself and winning the Evil Science Fair. John Cusack and others have beeen lined up to voice the characters for the film, so here’s hoping they’ve lent their talents to Southpeak Games, who are responsible for the videogaming side of things.
As you’d expect from a movie tie-in, Igor isn’t sounding like groundbreaking stuff by any stretch of the imagination. The Nintendo Wii version allows players to take control of one of the story’s four main characters (Igor, Eva, Scamper or Brain), to play simultaneously or co-operatively in an adventure based on the probably-gonna-be-blockbuster.
The Nintendo DS version, meanwhile, makes use of the touch screen to allow players to perform movement, combat, puzzle-solving and, perhaps most interestingly, the ability to custom build their own monsters to battle against others.
“Legacy and I2G are doing a tremendous job bringing Igor into the virtual gaming world,” said Melanie Mroz, CEO of SouthPeak Games. “This is a great property and promises to be a huge hit when it comes out this fall. We love the fact that the game is able to capture the elements of the film so well and turn it into a fun, interactive environment.”
Igor is released this September.
