Confirmation of Star Wars: Clone Wars for the Nintendo Wii (and Nintendo DS) first appeared on the back of the instruction booklets shipped with LEGO Indiana Jones at the end of May this year. Developer LucasArts has now lifted the lid off the Wii version of the title, which is being built from the ground-up from the console and promises to deliver the Lightsaber-wielding experience that millions of Wii owners have been pining for.

In fact, LucasArts’ Ken Fox (producer of Clone Wars) explained to IGN that the game is all about Lightsaber duelling. It’s not a Lightsaber “simulator”, but when players swing the Wii Remote left and right, your character will do the same with their weapon on-screen.

Asked whether Clone Wars “nails” one-to-one Lightsaber action, Fox explained:

” I wouldn’t describe what we’re doing as one-to-one in the way that you might picture, but we really tried to make it feel like you get to swing your Lightsaber ‘manually’. In short, it feels like the most natural and convincing sword type experience I’ve had on the Wii. And on top of that, it not just a sword, it’s a lightsaber.”

More traditionally, the Nunchuck analog stick will move your avatar, while button presses will instruct your character to use the force, block and dodge.

Clone Wars’ story mode, where you play as a Jedia, features some of the most memorable Lightsaber battles from the series and movie. In multiplayer, meanwhile, you’ll be able to choose whichever character you choose before battling it to the death.

LucasArts hopes players will re-enact Lightsaber duels from the upcoming Clone Wars movie, DVD and TV series when the Nintendo Wii title (which it brags will closely match its counterparts on other media in the looks department) is released this autumn.
