Hudson considering original downloadable Wii content
Hudson Entertainment, the house that Bomberman built (or the house that built Mario Party) and the creators of the TurboGrafx-16, home of the very fun Soldier Blade ($6 says “buy it”) say that they’re entertaining the idea of original games to be made downloadable for Wii, according to CVG.
Their director of marketing, John Lee, said:
Well, the VC was specifically designed to bring back classic games, not to introduce new content. So to answer your question specifically: No. However, in the future, you should rephrase that question to: Are there any plans to launch original content on some downloadable service on the Wii, and you might get a different answer.
Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s President, talked about that same thing a lot, but it looks like original downloadable games won’t be coming to the Virtual Console but something else entirely. CVG contacted Nintendo, who basically said “yes, eventually” in very many more words:
Nintendo has developed a programming system that will allow small independent developers to make games for Wii download service. We cannot confirm at this time in what format the new content will be delivered, but in the future there will be original games available for download through the Wii Shop.
As long as Hudson doesn’t make any more atrocities on the level of Bomberman: Act Zero, I’d say this is a good thing.
