Boogie Superstar Wii officially announced [updated!]

Electronic Arts has today officially announced Boogie Superstar for the Nintendo Wii, a title aimed at girls that aims to give them a taster of the high life as a famous singer and dancer. And despite previous reports claiming that it is included, there is no mention of Balance Board support in this latest batch of information…

In a move where Electronic Arts has seemingly dropped the disco-themed gameplay of the original, Boogie Superstar whisks players away to a luxurious island where they will be trained up to sing and dance, so that they can eventually take the judges and world by storm in the Boogie Star Show.

Boogie SuperStar features more than 40 songs made famous by popular artists such as Rihanna, Fergie, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Leona Lewis, Alicia Keys, Good Charlotte, Britney Spears, Kanye West, and more. Another 30 songs will be available on International versions of the game, allowing players to perform songs from local artists including Melissa M (France), Monrose (Germany), Finley (Italy) and Fito y Fitipaldis (Spain). EA also explains that the title will have a big, featured artist too, although the developer is keeping their identity secret for a while.

“Boogie SuperStar promotes self-expression, creativity and empowerment for girls worldwide,” said Robert Nashak, VP of Casual Studios, EA Casual Entertainment. “We have created a game where girls don’t just observe someone else’s rise to fame, they experience it themselves, singing and dancing their way.”

Boogie Superstar will arrive in North America and Europe this October.

[UPDATE]

We speculated earlier on that Boogie Superstar may now not include Balance Board support, and now EA has confirmed it:

“Boogie SuperStar will not include game play on the Wii balance board,” explained a company representative, reports Balance Board Blog. “The game will utilize a microphone peripheral for singing and the Wii Remote’s motion-sensing technology for dancing, to provide players with a realistic and enjoyable performing experience.”

It’s official, Boogie Superstar will NOT support the balance board. I got in touch with EA and one of their PR reps confirmed it’s a no go.
