Nintendo Success in Taiwan
The Wii is selling wonderfully well in all the major regions, but what about Nintendo’s performances in other parts of the world? We’ve got details of when the Wii will be hitting Taiwan along with some general Nintendo sales news from the region.
Hakuyu, Nintendo’s Taiwan sales agent, has confirmed that the Wii won’t be hitting the market in the region until the Chinese New Year. As a result of this, retailers are increasing their orders for Nintendo DS Lite systems. The move is an attempt to take advantage of the lucrative Christmas market and get some money rolling in.
The company stated that it expects orders for Nintendo DS Lite systems to top NT$100 million (that’s about US$3 million) for January, as they stock the game console ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday which land in February.
Demand is strong for the DS in Taiwan, with the order of 20,000-30,0000 units not expected to meet consumer needs. Just as is the case in Japan, Europe and the USA, the DS is a major force in the console market and is proving to be a massive hit. This news is hugely encouraging for Nintendo as it seeks to tie up markets all over the world. It’s a bit like world domination, only less evil.
Whilst Wii consoles have yet to be available through legal means in Taiwan, some retailers and on-line stores began offering imported goods at a hugely marked up price recently. Demand for these over-priced units has also been huge, with all of them being snapped up according to market analysts. It looks like the Wii will be just as much of a hit as the DS when it hits Taiwan later this year. More sales news soon.
