I Heart Geeks announced for Nintendo DS

Just the other day we reported on the announcement of Mechanical Master, a game that tasks players to create incredibly complex contraptions that work to solve simple actions (popping a balloon, switching on a light bulb etc.) and now here’s I Heart Geeks, a new title for the Nintendo DS that seems to offer very much the same kind of experience.

The game’s storyline is based around the idea that a weedy geek can win over the heart of a beautiful cheerleader (displacing a jock) by wowing her with his brilliant builds. There are over 100 puzzles to solve in all in single-player mode, while pairs of gamers can face off against one another in timed races too.

Key Features include:

  • Fast and fun gameplay challenges players to solve unique puzzles with dozens of devices – rockets, sponges, candles, fans, conveyor belts, liquids, and more – combined with real-world application of the laws of physics — inertia, friction, gravity, magnetism and others.
  • Stylus-driven gameplay allows players to easily move components, test out possible solutions, and fire up their crazy machines to see the results.
  • Over 100 puzzles of varying difficulty gradually increase the challenge, ensuring appeal to a wide range of abilities, even those with limited knowledge of physics.
  • Multiple ways to solve most puzzles means that there is no single correct answer.
  • Compete head-to-head against friends and family in multiplayer timed skill tests.Hip artwork and backstory developed by urban icon Marc Ecko and his team; challenging game mechanics based on a cooperative design by German television giant SAT1/Pro Sieben.

“We are thrilled to work with Marc Ecko and his team to provide I Heart Geeks! With a hip art style and a tongue-in-cheek back story,” said Mario Kroll, cdv USA’s Director of Marketing and Public Relations.”This fits wonderfully with the accessible and maddeningly-addictive gameplay, as gamers of all ages try to solve physics-based puzzles and construct the most improbable machines.”

“Here at Ecko Entertainment we were instantaneously hooked to the unique game mechanic of the original European product, and realized that we wanted to be part of the effort that brought this great title to the states.” said Marc Fernandez, Vice President of Marc Ecko Entertainment.

I Heart Geeks will be released either in September or October 2008.
