GTA coming to Wii?
We all want it to, but could it ever happen? Reggie Fils-Aime has been speaking to MTV about how Nintendo managed to get GTA on the DS and the possibility of us seeing it on the Wii in the future.
The recent release of GTA IV was positively orgasmic gaming goodness as far as we’re concerned, so the chance to see it on the Wii has us salivating uncontrollably. In a recent interview with MTV, the Reggienator himself said that it might not be as unlikely as many people think. Arguably one of the best announcements from Nintendo at E3 this year was the unveiling (albeit just a logo) of Grand Theft Auto: China Town Wars.
So, how did GTA find itself on Nintendo’s tiddly little handheld, and what can we expect?
MTV: “Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.” How’d that come about? When did that conversation begin?
Reggie Fils-Aime, President, Nintendo of America: You know, we have had a long-term relationship with [”GTA” publisher] Take Two. We’ve had many conversations with the folks at Rockstar. This is a project they wanted to make. We’re thrilled to have it on the platform.
MTV: 2D? 3D? What’s it going to be like?
Fils-Aime: You know the folks at Rockstar. And so we think it’s best for them to tell the story of what that software’s going to be. They can certainly do a better job of bringing it to life and do a much better job explaining the backstory than I can.
But what about that tantilising possibility of seeing GTA on the Wii?
Multiplayer: Can Nintendo system owners take this sign of a DS “GTA” coming out as a sign that there is an increased chance or any plans for there to be a “GTA” on the Wii?
Fils-Aime: You know, a “GTA” on the Wii is all based on what Rockstsar and Take Two want to do. And again, from our standpoint, if they build a bottoms-up game that takes advantage of what we do well, I’d love to see it on the platform.
Multiplayer: But have you had any conversations with them about that?
Fils-Aime: I have not had any of those conversations.
So, unlike in the past Nintendo are refusing to rule it out, even going so far as to say it’d be great to see it on the Wii. This certainly bodes well for Wii fans who also have a penchant for all things GTA.

is nobody going to do a interview with rockstar and take two about this then? or does the internet media run on rumour and hearsay now?
facts please.
i know ninty say they want it. hell i want it. but how about asking the people who REALLY know if its going to happen. just a thought. x
It’s not like other violent M rated titles have made it to the “kiddie console”.
Wii has RE:IV & UMBRELLA CHRONICLES, MANHUNT 2, NO MORE HEROES, GODFATHER (itself a very GTA-ish game), HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2/3 - and is getting DEAD RISING….
ROCKSTAR/TAKE 2 should consider a GTA for Wii. Why ignore so many consoles out there? Not every Wii user is a soccer mom/grandma/9 yr old like the cliches say.
its a boring game anyway
As long as it uses a new engine and not the PS2 engine, I’ll be happy with it. At the very least, It’ll be ok if they crank it up. I won’t be interested if it looks like another PS2 port.
“if they build a bottoms-up game that takes advantage of what we do well”
…Great, so now they’re going to make a gimmicky standalone game of GTA, too?
